From kettle bells to plates: what our line means

From kettle bells to plates. Personal training with Josh. Two meanings: the path a member walks, and the range of the coach walking it with them.

O-SEA Fit's line is short: From kettle bells to plates. Personal training with Josh. It is meant two ways at once, and both of them describe what training here is actually like.

The first meaning: the path you walk

Almost nobody walks into a gym ready to put a loaded barbell on their back, and nobody should have to. The usual first tool is a single kettlebell: one weight, held close to the body, that teaches you to hinge, squat, carry and press with control. It is forgiving. It is easy to make lighter or heavier. And it shows a coach how you move before anything heavy is involved.

Plates come later. A loaded bar asks more of your positions, your bracing and your confidence, so it is earned rather than handed out. Some people get there in months. Some take longer. Some decide the kettlebell is exactly where they want to stay, and that is a perfectly good answer too. What matters is that every step is chosen for you, which is why O-SEA Fit starts with how you move and what you want, and coaches you from there.

The second meaning: the coach who has walked all of it

Josh Miller is a CrossFit Level 3 Trainer, one of the highest coaching credentials in the sport. He has trained CrossFit since 2012, and in 2025 he placed 22nd in the Men's 50-54 division at the CrossFit Games.

That range matters to a beginner more than it sounds. A coach who has trained at the far end of the sport knows exactly how little of it a first session needs. Knowing where the path can lead is what lets a coach keep the first steps simple, and keep you safe on the way. You do not have to want any of the competitive side for it to help you. It just means the person watching your first kettlebell swing has seen every version of that movement, done well and done badly.

What personal training adds to the path

  • Personal Training: one-on-one coaching built entirely around your body, your goals, and safe, steady progress.
  • Semi-Personal Training: small-group coaching with real personal attention and built-in community.
  • Remote Coaching: custom programming, accountability and progress tracking so you can train well anywhere.

Whichever format you choose, you get a coach who knows your name, your history, and your goals. The path from the first kettlebell to the first plate is not a program you are dropped into. It is a series of decisions made with you.

When this is not the right path

If what you want is a gym membership to use on your own, without a coach, personal training is more than you need. If you have a medical condition or an injury that is still being treated, start with your doctor, and bring what they tell you to the first conversation. And if you only ever want to train in a big class, O-SEA CrossFit's coached group classes are the closer fit.

For everyone else, the first step is the same: a free consultation, where you tell us what you want and we tell you honestly how we would get you there.
